Formula One – Command and Control
A formula one pit lane is lined with petrol, tyres, and filled with people. It is dangerous, because no-one is in overall charge. Each team brings its car in when race strategy suites it. Sometimes several cars and several pit crews are in the lane together. It takes nineteen people over seven and a half seconds to make a perfect pit stop – and each of those nineteen people has to do it right. If one of the links in the nineteen-link chain is a bit rusty, then you’ve lost ten seconds, you’ve lost the lead – you’ve lost the race.
